Massage

Sometimes our posture and/or activities result in the head being forward rather than balanced squarely over the shoulders and spine. This can force tiny neck muscles into a structural role they are not equipped to play. Locked-up neck muscles and medially rotated (rounded) shoulders can further irritate and/or entrap the medial nerve as it exits the spine to travel down the arm. This is known as Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and can present symptoms similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome such as tingling, pain and weakness. If you are being treated by a physician, please gain a medical release (Dr.'s okay) for massage therapy.

Pregnancy massage is much like traditional massage except that it is modified to maximize comfort and safety. More specifically, a side-lying position is much more comfortable for the mother than lying prone or supine, especially as her baby grows. Extra pillows provide additional comfort and support. Also, for safety's sake, there are specific points which the therapist will avoid stimulating during pregnancy. It's best to avoid eating a large meal before the massage or drinking large amounts of liquid. Contraindications: If you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, please discuss pregnancy massage with your doctor or mid-wife prior to each session to make sure it's safe and appropriate for you.
